Experience
Effective tutoring involves more than just conveying content, it's also about teaching students how to teach themselves. Being a private tutor allows me to do what I love the most, teach science, but with an individualized approach based on the particular students learning style. For the past two years I have been an assistant professor of Anatomy & Physiology I and II, General Biology I (zoology), and General Ecology at Wiley College. As an open-door institution, many students required subject area tutoring as well as refinement of general study skills. I spent an average of 15 hours per week in one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. Prior to teaching at Wiley College, I taught at various levels, from elementary to graduate school: *Re-teacher at Barth Elementary - development of reading comprehension skills grades 4, 5 and 6. *Co-administrator Academic Adventure Camp at Barth Elementary - a voluntary summer school program, because learning can be fun! *Graduate student teaching assistant at the University of Massachusetts. I taught approximately 40% the graduate level Endocrinology course (BIO 568) and served as the course tutor. I also provided several guest lectures for human physiology (BIO 564).
