I was born in Detroit and that is the city where I currently live. I spent a decade in Chicago, and I have a lot of contacts in that city that allow me to do freelance work, teach, and interact with people.Professionally, I am a counselor that focuses on running psycho-educational groups, bereavement counseling, and hospice care. One of the things I do is to lead group counseling and teach a course on financial accountability to people who have written bad checks for the first time. I very much enjoy my work. In my view I have a calling to help others who are going through transitions, whether it be financial, death, or life. However, I am even more passionate about teaching.My teaching philosophy is student-centered, starting with making sure there is a positive environment for learning that will engage everyone. It is my belief that encouraging scholastic growth in my students is the same as supporting their ability to think creatively. This kind of approach helps students to develop their own individual voice that is refined by assignments, discussion, and their own personal experience. I also equate scholarly growth with critical thinking maturation.I have taught in the classroom and online. Some of my classes include Philosophy of Ethics and Principles of Health and Wellness.I am also a First Aid/CPR teacher, certified personal trainer, and family caregiving leader with the Southern Michigan Red Cross.When I am out, I enjoy riding my Trikke and Kangoo jumping.
